Coesewijne’s nature reserve is an extraordinary region at only a 1,5 hour drive from Paramaribo and is completely different compared to the Amazon jungle in southern Suriname. This gorgeous wetland with mangroves, swamps and savannas is uninhabited by people but instead with apes, capybara’s, caimans and a variety of birds. The creeks in this area are perfect to discover by kayak. This way the animals won’t be disturbed by the sound of engines and you’ll get to enjoy nature at its fullest. Birds will pass over and there’s even a chance to spot manatees or giant otters.
The kayaks will be launched at the Upper Coesewijne River, where you’ll directly be surrounded by pure nature. At night you’ll sleep in a hammock camp, set up earlier that day. On this back to basic trip there are is no sanitary facilities. In the morning, sounds from the jungle will awaken you and after breakfast the journey will continue via the Goliath creek and Coesewijne River. During the trip there’ll be plenty of stops to enjoy the beautiful scenery. At a quiet spot along the river you’ll have lunch whereupon we’ll start with the last part of the journey which ends at Pakoeli (former Stinasu camp). From here you’ll travel back to Paramaribo.
An active an adventurous trip at an unexplored area, a perfect opportunity to enjoy nature at its fullest!
