Waterproof Tours Suriname, founded in 2008, is a touroperator executing a small number of specialized trips. Our trips have been developed with great care and attention to detail, and are performed by a team of trained guides. Our guides receive extensive training including up to date instructions and information and a first aid training. Their performance is evaluated according to a fixed schedule. This means they are always ready to go on an adventure with you.

Managing Director of Waterproof Tours Suriname, Liesbeth Gummels, does not only run a Destination Management Company but she is also an experienced Line producer. She has worked as a Line producer for various media productions, due to her knowledge of the Surinamese tourism sector. In a country like Suriname, a vast network of trusted partners is very important. Liesbeth has built these strong relations throughout the years.
Our creativity in combination with eye for detail has led to a great variety of special trips. For example: homestays in the districts, a three-Guyana roundtrip, a survival trip with a private local guide or a luxurious group trip with a helicopter flight and a VIP cabana including champagne. Waterproof Tours Suriname is SHATA member. SHATA is, since 2016, the private organization that supports the whole tourism sector of Suriname and devotes itself to put Suriname on the map. This is a big step for Suriname, and Waterproof applauds and supports this.
One of the precursors of SHATA was the Vereniging van Surinaamse Touropretors (VESTOR), where Waterproof’s managing director Liesbeth Gummels was board member for many years. On behalf of VESTOR she also contributed to the national standards for booking centers and tour operators which are officially set in December 2014.
At Waterproof we like to contribute to the future of tourism in Suriname. An important part of this mission is a sustainable approach in everything we do. Thanks to our sustainable perspective, we are the first in Suriname who have received the Travelife Certified sustainability label. Next to that we support the JA Foundation, an organization which sustains projects in Suriname for underprivileged children/orphans.
