The Anaula Nature Resort is Suriname’s latest resort . The resort lays in Upper-Suriname, at an approximate 4.5 hours drive and a one-hour boat trip from Paramaribo, but the resort is also reachable by airplane. An inland flight from Paramaribo to the nearest airstrip Ladoani, takes about 45 minutes.
Upper-Suriname is known for its unique Maroon culture and its wonderful Amazon rainforest. Decades ago, the Maroons (descendants of runaway slaves) settled in the inaccessible rainforest, where they started a new existence. Due to their isolated way of life, they have developed their own culture with strong African influences. The women in their colourful robes, children playing at the riverside in contrast with the pureness of the tropical rainforest, provide a breathtaking scene.
