In the interior of Upper Saramacca, just a 4-hour drive from Paramaribo, there is a paradise for real adventurers and animal lovers: the Fredberg. The tropical rainforest in this uninhabited area is pristine, causing wildlife to live in peace. From the top of the mountain there is a magnificent view over de the Surinamese jungle. While you watch the parrots (macaws) flying by, you can hear toucans and howler monkeys in the distance.
From the base camp Zintete you undertake various activities. The highlight is a beautiful 2.5 hour (5km) hike to the top of the Fredberg where you spend the night back to basic in a hammock. Just imagine how beautiful the starry sky is with a 360 degree view of the jungle! Furthermore, the program includes swimming, fishing, boating in the creek and animal spotting. All, of course, accompanied by a guide.
On the last day you return to Paramaribo, unless you would like to discover more of Suriname? It is also possible to extend your trip with a stay at the Upper Suriname River, such as Gunsi or Knini Paati, where besides the jungle you can experience the Marroon culture.
