This round trip Highlights Suriname offers all the highlights that you must see when you are in Suriname! The historic centre of Paramaribo, the different districts with their residents, the Maroon culture, but also the sea turtles that lay their eggs on one of the beaches. The Surinamese history is of course also discussed during your stay on one of the oldest coffee and cocoa plantations. You will find nature in all corners of Suriname, such as an overnight stay in a lodge in the middle of the water, a refreshing dip in the dark cool creek at Palulu camping, and during your trip to the deep inland you have the opportunity to spend the night in a hammock in the middle of the jungle, a true experience!

Program

Day 1: Arrival – Paramaribo – stay at Hotel Eco Torarica

After arrival at the airport you will be taken by transfer to Paramaribo where you will stay in Hotel Eco Torarica. A nice centrally located hotel with a beautiful garden and small swimming pool with view on the Suriname River and within walking distance of various food and beverage outlets.

Day 2: Paramaribo – City tour by bus

This bus tour through Paramaribo starts with a round (partly on foot) through the historic city centre. After this you will visit other parts of the city. At the end of the trip you have been able to see the different sides of the city!

Day 3 – 4: Wetland Bigipan nature reserve

You travel to the west of Suriname and near Nickerie is the Natural Area Bigi Pan. Bigi Pan is a wetland area and it extends along the coast of the Coronie and Nickerie districts and is 67000 hectares. This area has beautiful nature with a lot of mangrove and 122 species of shorebirds have already been counted, such as the Flamingo and the Red Ibis. These birds also breed in this area. You spend the night in a simple lodge on the water.

Day 4 – 6: Saramacca – Bloemendaal apartments

Small-scale accommodation near the village of Groningen on the Saramacca River. Relax by the pool or visit the quiet village of Groningen, or take a nice optional boat trip such as, for example, early in the morning for spotting animals

Day 6 – 8: Commewijne – Plantation Peperpot – Warappakreek

Located on the oldest coffee and cocoa plantations along the Suriname River and adjacent to the forest edge of Peperpot Nature Park where you can learn more about the plantation, nature and wildlife during your visit to the Education Centre.
Nice day trip with a combination of history and nature. The boat trip through the narrow tidal creek, where plantations used to be situated and now many birds can be spotted, is really the highlight of the day.

Day 8 – 10: Marrowijne – Galibi – Sea turtles

Visit the laying beaches to see the impressive sea turtles during the laying process. Furthermore, a short visit to St Laurent in French Guiana where you will get a tour of the local Bagno Museum (prison) where Papillon has been detained.

Day 11 – 12: Brokopondo – Reservoir kayak tour – stopover Palulu Jungle camping

Kayak over the endless reservoir with protruding treetops and former mountain peaks in the form of islands. A very nice active day trip!
At this special atmospheric eco campsite in the middle of the Jungle savanna, you can enjoy the peace, nature and the wonderfully refreshing cola-colored creek. You spend the night in a tent with mattresses and bed linen, neat sanitary facilities on the grounds.

Day 12 – 15: Upper Suriname – Maroon culture – Pingpe Jungle Resort

Personal, small-scale with a lot of involvement from the local residents. Also the possibility for a special back to basic overnight stay in the jungle.
